Study RWTH Aachen | Resource conservation at Heineken
"Responsibility". This year's main theme of Anuga FoodTec clearly focusses on the economical use of resources in production for both manufacturers and suppliers.
A joint study by RWTH Aachen University and igus® now shows how Heineken Brazil is saving costs and CO2-eq by switching to lubrication- and maintenance-free bearing technology made of high-performance polymers.

The results | Savings at Heineken Brazil and worldwide
One of the customer applications analysed concerns the transport technology at the Brazilian branch of the Heineken brewery group. The focus was on 600 bearing points in the conveyor belt, which can now operate without external lubricants thanks to the replacement of metal bearings with polymer bearings.
The researchers calculated a saving of 180 kg CO2 equivalent per year.
If all 160 Heineken branches were to switch to polymer bearings, the company could not only save 28,814 kg of CO2 equivalent per year. It would also save a projected 20 tonnes of lubricant costing 450,478 euros per year and 5.4 million euros in personnel costs.
These products make the switch to lubrication-free technology a success.
