What is a gear rack?
A gear rack is an elongated component with a series of teeth. It is used to transmit force between one or two gears. When combining gear rack and gear, it is important to ensure that they use the same module.

What does the module of a gear rack specify?
The module of a gear rack indicates the size of the tooth of a gear rack.

When do gear rack and gear fit together?
The teeth of the gear rack and gear must have the same module to interlock smoothly.

Do the iglidur® plastic gear racks need to be lubricated?
No, iglidur® gear racks do not require any external lubricants.
 
I need a special geometry for a gear rack, is that possible?
Yes, that is possible. We will be happy to advise you, also regarding the right material. You can submit an enquiry about your individual gear rack here[Link extid="378" title="Hier"]. There is no minimum order quantity. From one piece to several million, everything is possible.
 
How are the iglidur® plastic gear racks manufactured?
igus has three production processes for gear racks:

• Injection moulding with iglidur® high-performance polymers
• Mechanical CNC machining from iglidur® bar stock
• 3D printing with iglidur® laser sintering or FDM materials
