All-terrain vehicle

Lightweight, environmentally friendly and recyclable

What was needed:
Plain and spherical plain bearings

Requirements:
Suitable for all-weather, off-road use, low maintenance

Sector:
Automotive engineering

Success for the customer:
Maintenance-free bearing points that do not require additional lubricants

Problem:

The designers at Etisoft Smart Solutions were unable to use conventional rolling bearings due to the limited installation space in the transport vehicles. That's why a space-saving alternative was needed.

Solution:

Polymer plain bearings from the iglidur® Z series are used in the control arms of the autonomous transport vehicles. The bearings make it possible to distribute the weight of the robot and its load evenly. They transmit the axial forces that act on the suspension bolts and enable the smooth running of the entire mechanism.

"For the two most important safety elements of a car, the steering and brakes, we put our trust in igus® plain bearings. The weight advantage and the low maintenance requirements convince us every time."

Leo Choisel, KG Automobile

Ample storage space with 520 litres of load volume

The young French car manufacturer KG Automobile is committed to the motto "Less Is Better". That is why this vehicle has a lower weight, lower environmental impact and lower fuel consumption than conventional cars. At the same time, the vehicle is designed to be fun, practical and environmentally friendly.

The off-road vehicle offers a total load volume of 520 litres and a particularly reliable and maintenance-free modular design. It is also environmentally friendly. Not only because of its low weight and low fuel consumption. In addition, the vehicle is produced on site at KG Automobile and recycling has already played an important role in the vehicle's development.

High demands on vehicle and components

KG Automobile's aim was to build a vehicle with all-wheel drive, space for two people and a weight of less than 300 kg. It had to be all-weather, off-road, low-maintenance and road-legal. A whole series of requirements that made the design phase complex. All the components used also had to fulfil these requirements.

iglidur® plain bearings and igubal® spherical plain bearings from igus® were able to enter the race without any problems under these operating conditions. They convince with their mechanical resistance, a very good price and maintenance-free use without additional lubricants. igubal® KSTM pillow block bearings are used for the steering column, igubal® KCLM ball heads for the steering tie rods and iglidur® plain bearings for the guidance of the brake pedal.
