chainflex® cables in the cleanroom

Great demands are placed on the cables used in the cleanroom. Moving components must be particularly abrasion-resistant, as any contamination has a detrimental effect on the product and process. That costs money. To achieve this, air flows are established within the room that remove particles smaller than a hair. The use of products with low abrasion - i.e. few particles - saves the time-consuming and expensive removal of particles.
We develop and test our high-performance polymer products in our own cleanroom laboratory with the utmost care and, in order to certify the best possible suitability in the cleanroom, they are subjected to further tests by the Fraunhofer Institute. This enables an IPA-tested product portfolio with the best possible cleanroom classification (ISO Class 1).

What is a cleanroom?

A cleanroom is an enclosed space in which the concentration of airborne particles is kept as low as possible. Cleanrooms are required when the production of certain products is disrupted by particles suspended in the air. Typical areas are semiconductor production, medical technology, optical and laser technology, aerospace technology and many more. The products in these industries could be contaminated by the smallest particles and thus become unusable. The cleanroom ensures trouble-free production here.

How does the cleanroom work?

To keep a room free of particles or germs, a number of measures must be taken and the air quality, temperature and humidity must be continuously monitored. The cleanroom may only be entered wearing appropriate protective clothing and after passing through an airlock. In the room itself, air flows and filters ensure clean air.

What are the requirements for materials and machines used in the cleanroom?

High demands are placed on the materials and machines used in the cleanroom. Two points are particularly significant: 1. The air flow in the room must not be disturbed or only slightly disturbed by the equipment used. 2. The surfaces of all components used must be highly resistant to abrasion.

Cable range for cleanrooms - CFCLEAN

In our product range you will find 1,084 cleanroom-compatible chainflex cables. The IPA Institute has certified them for cleanrooms of ISO Class 1 or 2. We pay special attention to optimising our cables for alternating bending and apply highly abrasion-resistant jacket materials. We make clear statements about durability and guarantee* service life.
Pneumatic hoses and various cables with IPA ISO Classes 1 and 2 are also available ready for connection, suitable for Bosch Rexroth, Festo, Parker, Siemens and many other manufacturers.

* Various igus® chainflex® cable families have been certified according to DIN EN ISO 14644-1 ISO Class 1 or Class 2 by the IPA Fraunhofer Institute (Reports IG1303-640-1 and IG0704-400). This corresponds to 1,084 different chainflex® catalogue cables with tested outer jacket material, 918 types with IPA Class 1 and 166 types with IPA Class 2.

    Team power in the cleanroom

In order to design the cable to be lighter and more flexible, the outer jacket has been omitted. The e-skin flat takes over this function.     Cable for use in dry cleanroom

    A dry cleanroom is a specially controlled environment in which extremely low humidity and a high level of particle-free air prevail. A classic example of a dry cleanroom is battery production.

    The so-called IPA certificates from the Fraunhofer Institute are an important standard for the cable used here.

    All halogen-free chainflex cable with a TPE outer jacket fulfil the requirements of ISO class 4 and 5 and impress with minimal particle abrasion, efficiency and safety.
